Artist Statement
Untitled was inspired by my interest in lines and the intersection of lines, as well as patterns. It is intended to encourage the mind to think about lines traveling in multiple directions and how they relate to one another.
Inspiration for my pencil drawings comes from a variety of sources, including architecture, machinery, and shapes, lines, and shadows that we observe throughout our everyday lives. This untitled piece is the first of what I envision being many with intersecting lines that form patterns. The “less is more” theme is central to many of my drawings, as is the use of patterns.
Along with colored pencils, I only use a ruler and circle template to create the drawings. No computer is used during the drawing process, and no color enhancement tools are employed. Although different drawings may touch on or incorporate similar themes, each drawing is entirely unique.
